Isla de Navidad

Isla de Navidad (1995 pop est. 890), 60 millas cuadradas (155 kilómetros cuadrados), en el Océano Índico, C.200 millas (320 km) S de Java. La mayoría de los habitantes son chinos y malayos que trabajan en los extensos depósitos de fosfato. La isla fue anexada por la Gran Bretaña en 1888 y se convirtió en parte de los antiguos asentamientos Estrecho en 1889. En 1958 fue cedida a Australia.
