Akubra hat
The Akubra hat has come to symbolise the Australian bush. Made of felt from the underfur of rabbits, the wide-brimmed hat is the head-cover of choice for many Australians, especially in rural areas.
The Akubra is a slouch hat, meaning the brim can be pinned to the crown on one side. That makes it easier to carry a rifle — one of the reasons the hat was standard issue for Australian soldiers during both world wars. First produced in the early 1870s, the hat now is worn most commonly by farmers because it is hardy enough to withstand extreme weather conditions.
