What is a traditional lunch in Australia?

Australian Lunch

The Australian lunch can be made up of a wide range of traditional Australian foods. An Aussie meat pie and a bottle of chocolate milk or milkshake do well. Maybe a sausage roll or two. A Vegemite sandwich still works and even salad sandwiches are popular. Australian food history allows you to make a sandwich out of almost anything, like baked beans, sweet corn, mushrooms and buttered sauce, fish paste, banana and sugar, cold spaghetti, you name it, an Aussie will make a sandwich out of it. Hamburgers are popular, but with their own style, like adding a fried egg, pickled beet root (delicious), and pineapple. Or for a truly traditional Australian lunch maybe a counter lunch at the local hotel (pub), usually an outstanding and inexpensive hot meal. Lunch is usually not overly large as it is often getting hot outside and one just recently finished morning tea anyway

Yes. Thanks. Let me tell you it is difficult to find a lot of information on Australian traditional meals, etc. This has made my powerpoing a ton easier.

I have 3 boys 12 years old staying with us from Australia on a travel baseball team (my boys play little league baseball). I have enjoyed your input and will take your points into account. I have never been to Australia so can't recreate their Moms dish but want them to eat. When you talk about lunch, what would be the best idea? Breakfast seems easy for us and we love to BBQ hamburgers and such. Thanks, Kathy

I'm an Aussie, lived in Australia my whole life. Typical white middle class and none of my family eat cold spaghetti or make a sandwich out of anything. We hardly eat sandwiches! This article makes us sound like slobs... Our kids take their lunch to school, no canteen in some city schools. They have cold boiled eggs, or some ham, chicken, celery and carrot sticks, rice crackers, cheese, fruit... I'll eat chicken salad or tuna and a salad. My husband will eat a burger, subway, or pasta
And let me tell you pineapple and beetroot on a burger is true and so yum. You have to try it once.
